Amazon has announced that its newest version of the Kindle e-book reader will be available at the end of August. The new Kindle will sell for $189 with 3G wireless included. For those who don’t need 3G wireless, the new Kindle Wi-Fi will sell for a lower price of $139.
The new Kindle e-book reader will have a screen with 50% better contrast than other e-readers, and will weigh under 9 ounces, with a 21% smaller body than earlier versions of the Kindle. Amazon stated that the new Kindle will still have the 6″ reading screen already featured on earlier generation Kindles.
Battery life of up to a month and the ability to store twice the number of books than before will also be among the features of the newest Kindle.
Amazon is already taking pre-orders for the new generation Kindle and the Kindle Wi-Fi and plans to begin shipping them on August 27.
