Actress Michelle Williams, who stars in Blue Valentine along with Ryan Gosling and Mike Vogel, appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night to support the movie’s rating change from NC-17 to R. Williams praised Harvey Weinstein’s “full frontal assault” on the movie ratings board.

Weinstein, who lead the ratings appeal, is Co-Chairman of the Weinstein Company. The Weinstein Company bought Blue Valentine after its debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
When Jon Stewart referred to the film as “A quiet film,” Williams replied, “I think it’s an action movie.” She said, “There are bombs exploding, but it’s in the kitchen.”

Movie drama Blue Valentine will able to be seen in more theaters when it opens on December 31, due to the Classification and Rating Appeals Board overturning the original NC-17 rating assigned by the Classification and Rating Administration to an R rating. Blue Valentine was first assigned the movie rating of NC-17 for “a scene of explicit sexual content.” After the appeal, the R rating was given to the movie for “strong graphic sexual content, language, and a beating.”
