Microsoft Sold 8 Million Kinect Sensors in 60 Days
The release of Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Kinect for the Xbox 360, and extremely popular video games like Fable III and Halo: Reach, drove 2010 to be the biggest year ever in Xbox history.
The Microsoft Xbox 360 was the fastest-growing console in 2010, and the only console to show year-over-year growth at 42%.
Consumers spent more money on the Xbox 360 than any other current generation gaming console in 2010, totaling a whopping $6.2 billion.
Microsoft sold 1.9 million Xbox 360 game consoles in December of 2010, making it the biggest sales month ever in the history of Xbox 360.
Three of December’s top 10 console game titles were for the Xbox 360. These included Call of Duty: Black Ops, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Kinect Sports.
Microsoft’s Kinect for the Xbox 360 is one of the hottest selling gaming devices on the market. Eight million Kinect sensors were sold in the first 60 days of its release. Since its launch, 50 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold worldwide. Microsoft also has 30 million active Xbox LIVE members.
With Xbox 360 gaming enthusiasts anxiously awaiting the release of Gears of War 3, as well as new Kinect titles Hulu Plus and Avatar Kinect, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) should see an even greater return on their investment when the new games are released later this year, possibly giving the company the edge to see this year’s Xbox 360 sales rival those of 2010.
