
2011 Chevy Volt Wins North American Car of the Year Award
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) won the 2011 North American Car of the Year award with its Chevrolet Volt plug-in electric car at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The Chevy Volt sports a gas-powered on-board generator, so it can travel up to 375 miles without stopping to re-charge the battery or fuel up the generator.
To win the award, the Chevy Volt had to beat two other finalists, the Nissan Leaf and the Hyundai Sonata. The Nissan Leaf is all electric and has a range of 100 miles on a single charge. The Hyundai Sonata has a 2.4-liter gasoline powered engine with 22/35 mpg city/highway capabilities.

2011 Ford Explorer Wins North American Truck of the Year Award
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) won the 2011 North American Truck of the Year award with its newly designed midsized Ford Explorer. This is the third year in a row that Ford has taken home the Truck of the Year award at the Detroit Auto Show.
The Ford Explorer 4WD can seat up to 7, has 5,000 lbs towing, and its powerful 3.5-liter engine gets 17/25 mpg.
Hats off to GMÂ (NYSE:GM) and Ford (NYSE:F) for bringing the American made automobile to the forefront once again.
