Police Officer Invloved in Accident Arrested for DUI

An automobile accident involving an off-duty Virginia police officer and a motorist driving a Toyota Tundra led to the arrest of Mark Joseph Whitney, 40. Officer Whitney of the Onley Police Department was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after failing a field sobriety test given by Virginia State Police.

Officer Whiteny’s blood alcohol content was found to be .20 percent which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent in the state of Virginia.

According to Virginia State Police, Officer Whitney of Chincoteague failed to yield the right-of-way and drove into the side of a Toyota Tundra being driven by a Norge, Va. man along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The driver of the Tundra sustained minor injuries.

Officer Whitney was driving a 2005 Subaru Impreza. He has since resigned his position with the police department.
