Gluten-Free Foods Have Reached An All Time High

More Gluten Free Foods Are Available Than Ever Before

Choosing to go “gluten free” has become a new trend among those who are trying to lose weight. Although people suffering from a gluten intolerance or Celiac Disease have to eat a gluten-free diet to avoid complications such as gastrointestinal pain, malnutrition and even mental disorders, persons not afflicted by a gluten intolerance may be doing themselves a disservice by eating a wholly gluten-free diet.

Recently Dr. Oz focused on gluten free foods during a Dr. Oz Show segment, saying that people who don’t need to eat gluten-free foods to be healthy should not follow a gluten free diet to lose weight. Dr. Oz said that eating a gluten free diet containing processed foods can actually cause a person to gain weight instead of losing weight. According to Dr. Oz, processed gluten-free foods often contain up to twice as many calories as regular foods and they can also cost twice as much as the conventional variety.

Dr. Oz recommended choosing naturally occurring gluten-free foods rather than the pre-packaged gluten-free foods that are suddenly filling the grocery aisle. More companies are marketing gluten-free foods than ever before.

For those that won’t take Dr. Oz’s advice or can’t do without the convenience of pre-packaged gluten free foods, the Celiac Awareness Tour will be stopping by Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, April 16, 2011. The Gluten Free Expo will be held from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Clifton Center.

The gluten-free expo is being presented by The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR) and Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Markets and is being sponsored by Glutino, a member of the Glutino Food Group. Educational speakers and food demonstrations will be held throughout the day. Up to 30 gluten-free food vendors will be on hand offering free samples and workshops. Admission to the event is also free.
