Workers at Air Canada have commenced a strike that began earlier this morning due to multiple weeks of pension-plan negotiations that have deteriorated to today’s situation between the workers union (Canadian Auto Workers) and the company.  Air Canada flight boarding times are expected to be increased according to company due to, but little beyond that is expected to affect flight schedules.

The union did release a statement today which reads, “refused to remove major concessionary demands on the existing pension plan.”  Air Canada so far is not budging, otherwise the strike likely could had been adverted.  A reported 3,800 union members have left their posts until an agreement is reached.

Air Canada’s Chief Operating Officer (or, COO) Mr. Duncan Dee stated on a YouTube video put on the Internet by Air Canada the following, “Despite the strike, Air Canada is operating its full schedule.”  He also noted that the company still has 1,700 employees on-hand at company facilities to provide assistance to travelers.

It would be reasonable for persons that are scheduled to attend a flight through Air Canada to do some ‘due diligence’ regarding flight times and to contact company representatives to ensure latest flight schedules in advance until the strike is over.
