Twitter will tighten rules on issues such as hate speech amid a boycott over the social-media platform's handling of actress Rose McGowan's postings on Harvey Weinstein and criticism of its approach to users who target women with sexual or violent content.
It's worth noting that locking McGowan's account didn't do much to silence her: just a few hours after it was reactivated, she named Weinstein as her alleged rapist and said that Amazon had known about it after she told the head of the behemoth company's studio.
Which brings us back to Friday's tweetstorm. Following the boycott, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has said that his company will introduce a stronger set of rules to weed out sexual harassment, hateful symbols and violent groups from the short messaging platform. "We spoke when we had something to say".

Mr Dorsey said Twitter was reconsidering its verification policies as well. Others used the opportunity to highlight women of color with #WOCAffirmation, pointing out that it often isn't until a white woman is silenced that we're willing to rally for change.
Twitter routinely promises to fix it, and routinely has to promise to "be better" a few months later.
The platform is also being questioned over the role it played in Russia's efforts to meddle in the U.S. election. That the platform is slow to block abuse and trolling of women, but quick to freeze McGowan's account is she was speaking out about abuse, makes Twitter tone-deaf to both the national conversation about sexual abuse and the problems that plague its own platform. Facebook Inc, on the other hand, has 2 billion users.
Dorsey wrote how tackling such crimes on the social media platform had been a top priority for his company but they still weren't doing enough. Bloomberg LP is developing a global breaking news network for the Twitter service.
