The number of jobless people in the Wichita area fell in September, according to a report Friday from the Kansas Department of Labor. Unemployment claims have been historically low since mid-summer.
Maine's unemployment rate was lower than the national rate of 4.2 percent and the New England rate of 3.9 percent.
The number of jobs in the state hit 1,033,320 in September, up by more than 14,000 over a year ago.
The unemployment rate is generated from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics or place of residence survey. The seasonally adjusted rate factors influences such as weather, holidays and the opening and closing of schools.

The decline was driven largely by a fall in sales of non-essential items, such as spectacles, souvenirs, weapons and collectables. The BOE and most economists expect economic growth of around 0.3 percent.
