'Missing' Lahore journalist Zeenat Shehzadi recovered after two years

Zeenat was rescued on 18 October near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, according to officials.

Iqbal added, that Shahzadi had been abducted by non-state actors and enemy intelligence agencies and that she had been rescued their clutches.

Well-known Pakistani journalist and rights activist Beena Sarwar tweeted about Shahzadi being found: "Thrilled that the disappeared activist-journalist Zeenat Shehzadi is home safe".

The CJFE had held a rally on August 19 on the second anniversary of her kidnapping to bring attention to her case and call on the Canadian government to intervene with the Pakistani government for her release.

The Zeenat had however informed her parents that she was taken away forcibly by the intelligence agencies of Paksitan while she was investigating disappearance of Hamid Nehal Ansari A resident of Mumbai. Shahzadi was due to appear before the Commission on Enforced Disappearances just days after she disappeared.

Zeenat Shahzadi went missing two years back in 2015.

Shahzadi had filed an application with the Supreme Court's Human Rights Cell two years ago on behalf of Hamid Ansari's mother Fauzia Ansari.

Fauzia told Pakistan newspaper that said she was delighted to know about Shahzadi's release.

Ansari who has been missing since November 2012 was arrested for illegally entering Pakistan from Afghanistan to meet an online friend. I did not even have any contact number for her family, as I never thought I would need one.

"My sister has not committed any crime in helping an Indian national", he said.

Shahzadi's brother Saddam Hussain was miserable after her kidnapping due to which he committed suicide in March past year bringing her case back to headlines.
