If there is any team to mess up like this at the trade deadline, it's the Cleveland Browns. After the trade deadline passed, reports emerged that it didn't go through because the Browns didn't file the paperwork in time.

On Tuesday as the National Football League trade deadline was approaching, the Browns and the Bengals were working out a deal to send Bengals backup A.J. McCarron to Cleveland.

McCarron is now stashed in Cincy behind Andy Dalton, who's had the keys to the Bengals offense ever since being drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

It sounds like Bengals president Mike Brown and Browns head coach Hue Jackson were all set to swap quarterbacks again on Trading Deadline Day. Brown hit the lottery when he sent the disgruntled Palmer to the Raiders, ending his nine-month retirement, and got in return a first-rounder in the next draft and a second-rounder in 2013. He completed 66.4 percent of his passes in seven appearances during the 2015 regular season, throwing for six touchdowns and two interceptions.

But McCarron, with three National Football League starts along with a post-season start, apparently has value. He has not taken a snap this season. An arbitrator will have to decide whether he is a restricted or unrestricted free agent in 2018.
