Papa John's already has a strong association with the league, so we have scaled back the use of NFL marks in certain areas.

Papa John's stocks dipped about 12 percent Wednesday after the Louisville-based company cut earnings and sale growth expectations for the year.

The pizza industry is joining together in solidarity to roast Papa John's. However, others roasted the Papa John's founder for blaming players protesting racial inequality for poor sales, as opposed to acknowledging subpar pizza could have played a role. But instead of commenting on whether to take a knee, he said the situation is hurting pizza sales.

On Wednesday, Papa John's founder and CEO chalked up lower-than-expected sales on the NFL's declining ratings following players' protests.

"This should have been nipped in the bud a year and a half ago", Schnatter said. Henderson cited consumer survey data from spring 2016 showing that blacks consume 1.2 times as much Papa John's pizza as whites, and slightly favor Papa John's over Domino's and Pizza Hut. On Thursday, the chief executive of Pizza Hut's parent company told investors in a call that the players' protests haven't impacted the company one bit.

While Schnatter has placed blame for his company's financial dip on the National Football League and its players, other pizza chains like Domino's have seen an increase in stock of 12% this year, according to CNN.
