Boucher lives next door to Paul and his wife, according to Warren County property records.

Kentucky State Police say the FBI is investigating to see if the attack was politically motivated, which Boucher's attorney disputed.

It isn't clear when Paul will return to work since he is in considerable pain and is having difficulty getting around.

An arrest warrant obtained by Courier Journal stated that Boucher allegedly "tackled him from behind".

Paul had injuries to his face, "including small cuts to the nose and mouth area", and he was having trouble breathing "due to a potential rib injury".

Kentucky State Police said in a news release Saturday that Paul suffered a minor injuries when Boucher assaulted him at his Warren County home in a gated community on Friday afternoon.

The Daily Caller noted that Boucher had been a registered Democrat and shared a post from his Facebook page "citing left-wing academic Noam Chomsky's criticism of the Republican party".
