Investigators for Special Counsel Robert Mueller are questioning witnesses about an alleged September 2016 meeting between Mike Flynn, who later briefly served as President Donald Trump's national security adviser, and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a staunch advocate of policies that would help Russian Federation, two sources with knowledge of the investigation told NBC News.
Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian manipulation of the 2016 U.S. election, has already indicted Trump's former campaign manager and another senior fundraiser on charges including money laundering and a former foreign policy adviser has pleaded guilty to perjury.
The fact that no indictment has been made public may only increase concerns for Trump's legal team.
While his investigation is focused on Russian meddling, Mueller has a broad mandate and has honed in on Flynn's activities as Trump's lead national security advisor.

Flynn worked on behalf of the Turkish government before being named White House National Security Adviser for President Trump, but did not disclose his lobbying work for the country until March.
The people who described the alleged proposal said they didn't attend the December meeting and didn't have direct knowledge from Mr. Flynn or his associates about its purported details. And as early as September of previous year, he had discussions with Turkish officials to find ways to deliver on the Gulen plan, according to James Woolsey, the former Central Intelligence Agency director. According to the sources, Mr Mueller recently interviewed witnesses over last December's meeting between the Turkish officials and Mr Flynn at the swanky 21 Club in New York City. According to "people familiar with the investigation", it was at this encounter that the $15m payment was discussed.
The NBC News report said the evidence was related to Flynn's lobbying work throughout the latter half of 2016 - while he was a top Trump campaign surrogate - for a businessman with ties to the Turkish government.
While he may have been a voice during the 2016 campaign, the revelation that Flynn gave incomplete information as national security adviser cost him his position in the White House.
"If the facts involving Flynn and his son are true, or even mostly true, it indicates an incredible propensity for outrageously illegal conduct", said Ryan Goodman, a NY law professor and former Pentagon counsel.
