This year, about 51 million Americans will take planes, trains, automobiles and other modes of transit 80 kilometres or more to their holiday destinations, a 3.3 per cent increase over last year.
US motor travel accounts for 10 percent of global demand, and is closely watched by global oil traders. While the average price is $2.56 across the country, Texans are paying about 20 cents less per gallon.
Gas prices in Sacramento are at an average of $3.09, which is up 55 cents from previous year.
Those driving over the holiday should keep in mind that the cost of fueling is up.
Motorists should see some relief at the pump before the holiday. "Our projection is there will be a 5.3 percent increase in boardings".
