The affidavit adds that Wesley Mathews confessed on October 23, a day after the child's body was discovered around a mile away from their home, that he grew impatient when Sherin refused to drink her milk, and told the police that he asked his wife to accompany him for dinner outside, and she agreed.

The mother of a girl who was adopted from India and found dead last month in suburban Dallas has been charged with child abandonment after police allege that she left the 3-year-old home alone.

Sini Mathews bond has been set at $250,000. J. Farmer, in Sini Mathews' arrest warrant. Authorities are alleging she left Sherin at their home unaccompanied for an hour and a half the night before October 7, when she was first reported missing.

"The time that they left, she was not under the care of any other adult or of any other person, she was left home alone by herself and it's for that reason that you see this particular charge", said Kevin Perlich, with the Richardson Police Department.

Sherin's death prompted External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to ask the Indian Embassy in the USA to be actively involved in the case and keep her informed.

Evidence gathered from Mathews' phone calls, and from receipts showing the food ordered, plus the testimony of a waiter at the restaurant, led the police to believe only one child was with the couple at the restaurant. Mathews had reportedly grown impatient with Sherin for not drinking her milk, according to his arrest affidavit. He claims Sherin choked and died when he physically helped her drink her milk.

Wesley Mathews told police on October 7 that he had sent his adoptive daughter outside to an alley near their house about 3 a.m. because she refused to drink her milk. When he returned, Wesley said she had disappeared and that her location was unknown. He admitted to moving her body. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released the official cause of Sherin's death. Wesley Mathews estimated that they left Sherin Mathews alone for approximately an hour-and-a-half. Wesley remains jailed on an injury to a child charge.
