"About 190 militants have been killed in encounters with security forces in Valley this year so far", General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Gen J S Sandhu, said while addressing a joint press conference with local police and CRPF officials at army headquarters, here.

"As the search approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter", they said.

Speaking of peace in the Valley, J&K DGP SP Vaid said, "Kashmir valley needs to be free from violence, terror, guns and drugs. He is reportedly the nephew of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and possibly the son of Abdur Rehman Maki-the Lashkar number two", he said.

The group of militants had been active in the Hajan area since past four months and had carried out many low scale strikes on government forces.

The security forces on Saturday gunned down five terrorists during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora area, said reports.

On IAF commandos suffering casualties in anti-militancy operations, Sandhu remarked, "The special forces have to get operational experience and for this goal, they are participating in operations against militants".

The GOC said that the forces are working on two lines of operation. We want the youth, who have joined militancy, to return. "A local militant must realize that it is easy to call yourself a "mujahid" but are you a mujahid or just a proxy for Pakistan?" the Army Commander said and adding that the forces are ready to take the surrenders of local militants.
