The United States has informed the United Nations that it will no longer participate in the Global Compact on Migration.
The American pullout from the pact is scheduled for the end of 2018, AFP reported.
The U.S. officials told the United Nations it would withdraw from a global agreement on the treatment of migrants because it is "inconsistent" with U.S. immigration policies.
"But", Haley continued, "our decisions on immigration policies must always be made by Americans and Americans alone".
The U.S. has announced it will be leaving the United Nations' Global Compact for Migration due to concerns it undermines U.S. sovereignty.
In September of 2016, the members of the U.N. General Assembly unanimously adopted the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, a non-binding declaration committed to upholding the rights of refugees that sought to enhance worldwide coordination on migration.
The declaration says member states will work to protect migrants, attempt to integrate migrants, combat xenophobia and strengthen global cooperation on migration - among other issues.

She believed the US could influence the global negotiations on migration if it participated in the Mexico meeting, according to the magazine, but she was "ultimately overruled by the president".
Declaring that he was "elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris", Mr Trump complained that the accord gives other countries an unfair advantage over USA industry and destroys American jobs.
Following the September 2016 New York Declaration, the General Assembly started to develop this global compact in April 2017. "As such, it has the experience and expertise to help ensure that this process leads to a successful outcome".
In light of these withdrawals and threats, many observers have wondered aloud if Trump's "America First" policy is really an "America Alone" one. "As a result, President Trump determined that the United States would end its participation in the compact process that aims to reach global consensus at the UN in 2018", the USA statement said.
The US has already pulled out of the United Nations climate change treaty and Unesco, the cultural heritage body, accusing the latter's leadership of an anti-Israeli bias.
