Deutsche Bank subpoenaed to provide Trump accounts' data

A person familiar with Mueller's investigation told the news agency Reuters on Tuesday that Germany's largest bank received a subpoena from the U.S. special counsel several weeks ago to provide information on certain money and credit transactions, confirming a report by German daily Handelsblatt published on the same day. The news came from German newspaper Handelsblatt, Bloomberg and Reuters, which cited unnamed sources.

Mueller is investigating Russian attempts to influence the 2016 USA election and any possible collusion by Trump associates.

Trump's relationship with Deutsche Bank stretches back some two decades and the roughly $300 million he owes to the bank represents almost half of his outstanding debt, according to a July 2016 analysis compiled by Bloomberg news agency.

Mr Mueller is investigating alleged Russian attempts to influence the 2016 United States presidential election and potential collusion by Trump aides.

In an interview this past July Trump told The New York Times that Mueller would cross a red line if he examined his or his family's finances.

In a statement, the bank said it cooperates with official investigators but would not discuss individual cases. "We have confirmed this with the bank and other sources", Dowd wrote in an email.

News of the Deutsche Bank subpoena may escalate Trump's vitriol toward investigators, which over the past week has included publicly attacking the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, whose reputation he declared to be " in tatters". Last week Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, pleaded guilty to a single count of making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

These reported conversations lead to questions about whether the president was trying to derail the FBI probe and end the investigation into Russian Federation and the 2016 election. But the Deutsche Bank subpoena may indicate that the special prosecutor is still looking at a wide range of data, including the president's financial dealings. In particular, Trump hailed the news that one of Mueller's aides had been removed from his job over the summer for some anti-Trump text messages.
