Texas Democrat Al Green plans to force impeachment vote in House

Democrat intends to force impeachment vote against Donald Trump

A Democrat congressman has vowed to force a vote to impeach President Donald Trump

The Democratic leaders have long believed that any effort to take up Trump's impeachment is premature as long as investigations by multiple congressional committees, as well as by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, are underway.

"Impeachment is an extraordinary measure, but it should be clear to anyone who examines the facts that President Trump's actions justify his impeachment, including his efforts to obstruct justice, his self-enrichment and serial violations of the Emoluments Clause, and his involvement in a cover-up stemming from his campaign's very likely collusion with Russian interests to undermine the 2016 presidential election". Green would need a simple majority of members to support it and no Republican has suggested that Congress should remove Trump from office. All Republicans opposed the motion, along with 126 Democrats.

And Green said three Democrats are asking to meet with him in an apparent effort to dissuade him from bringing up the vote.

In a tweet on Tuesday, December 5, Green, a Democrat from Texas, announced he had released articles of impeachment against Trump, on which the House will vote on Wednesday.

In the resolution, Green argues that Trump has sewn discord among Americans "by associating the majesty and dignity of the presidency with causes rooted in white supremacy, bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism, white nationalism, or neo-Nazism".

"Legitimate questions have been raised about his fitness to lead this nation".

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer tell Democrats: "Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment".

The resolution offered by Green states that Trump has sown discord among the people of the US based on national origin and race. Republicans are expected to offer a motion to table the resolution later Wednesday, effectively killing Green's resolution.

His articles cite, among other things, Mr. Trump's response to the white-supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and push to ban transgender people from the military.

In October, Green filed articles of impeachment, but they did not get put to a vote.
