Browns Fire VP Sashi Brown, Will Keep Hue Jackson Amid Tumultuous Rebuild

Brown was originally hired to be the Browns executive vice president/general counsel in 2013 and was promoted to executive vice president of football operations three years later in January 2016.

In addition to only winning one game so far in the last two seasons, the Browns also reportedly botched a trade for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback A.J.

While the Browns did decide to move on from Brown on Thursday, team owner Jimmy Haslam has made it clear that Hue Jackson will remain Cleveland's head coach next season.

The Browns were a shockingly bad 1-27 with Brown running the personnel department, but the Boston native and Harvard Law School graduate was able to stockpile some serious assets during his brief tenure that will leave a nice present for his successor.

Hue Jackson, upon learning his job as Browns head coach is safe for next year, expects to have more say in player acquisition in collaboration with the next general manager. Since taking ownership in 2012, Haslam has fired five other football executives and four coaches. And they have let go their top executive because of it. It's never too early to start planting the seeds of a culture change that could help Cleveland emerge from the depths of football next season. His firing is not unexpected since the Browns are 0-12 for the second straight season with Brown in charge.

Brown's regime has been marked with strikeouts at the quarterback position, namely trading out of the No. 2 spot in the 2016 National Football League draft as Philadelphia moved up to select Carson Wentz. Jackson, though, took a much different approach with the media on Thursday in the wake of Brown's dismissal.

Cleveland's next personnel leader will be tasked with selecting that player.

Brown and Jackson appeared to be at odds over several roster decisions and Haslam figured his best course of action was to end the relationship rather than attempting to fix it.

Most notably, however, the Browns have simply failed to pick the right quarterback.

Once upon a time, a struggling Browns franchise missed on Donovan McNabb.
