NASA will livestream the Geminid shower beginning at 9 p.m. on December 13, from the Automated Lunar and Meteor Observatory at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

While there will be fewer meteors Wednesday evening prior to the peak hours, the ones that do show are likely to be more spectacular, making longer streaks against the sky as they skim the atmosphere. The summer Perseids-which the American Meteor Society calls "the most popular meteor shower"-may be better known, and are arguably the closest contender to the Geminids". Moreover, this unusual object is the parent of the annual Geminid meteor shower, which is also coming this week. Even though you can spot meteors before and after the peak, the frequency would be less than one per minute. Then, give your eyes some time to adjust to the dark and start scanning the skies.

This year could see up to 120 shooting stars per hour - and viewers are advised to go to an open place away from street lights at 6.30am to see it at its best.

The Packers defense struggled to slow Kizer, who distributed the ball well to his playmakers in a balanced offensive attack. He's been uneven in seven starts in relief of Rodgers, but Hundley again delivered when it mattered most.

"When you see a meteor, try to trace it backwards", Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office said, according to NASA, "If you end up in the constellation Gemini there's a good chance you've seen a Geminid". When the Earth passes through the trail left by Phaethon, the dust and debris it leaves behind appear as shooting stars as they burn up in the atmosphere of Earth. The Geminid radiant is in the constellation Gemini. The three-mile-wide rock is either an asteroid or an extinct comet, NASA says. On this close approach, astronomers might be able to better observe and identify what 3200 Phaethon is.

If you want to wish upon a star, you may just get your wish ... this week.

The Geminid maximum also coincides with a bright return of its parent asteroid, 3200 Phaethon.
