Apple is said to be working on a way to allow developers to build apps that work with touchscreen input on iPhone and iPad, and with mouse and trackpad on Mac devices, to be implemented next year, according to Bloomberg.
Apple might start to converge iOS and macOS in a big way next year by letting developers create a single app that runs across both platforms. Often this results in iOS apps getting more attention than macOS apps. Expected to begin rolling out in the next major iOS and macOS updates, themselves likely to be released next fall, it would be one of the most significant changes to Apple's platforms in years. It isn't clear whether this means that macOS will emulate portions of iOS, or if developers will still largely have to code two separate apps.
San Francisco-Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad introduced a novel way of interacting with computers: via easy-to-use applications, accessible in the highly curated App Store. Because this is all so tentative, it's also possible that the decision makers at Apple could change their minds and cancel this endeavor entirely. Marzipan could make it easier for them to make all those apps available on the Mac, which is the desktop platform of choice at a growing number of companies.

Apple has not confirmed or denied this report. Similarly, Apple Watch developers are now constrained by the system as to how their apps can look, function and behave.
Whether or not this signals a shift in Apple's long-term strategy remains to be seen, but it certainly appears as if the Cupertino company is going down the same path that Microsoft took when it made Windows 10 universal.
Bloomberg's sources said that the project may be unveiled next June at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. The system allows users to run mobile device app like Instagram and Snapchat on computers.
