A major winter storm is expected to bring strong winds and heavy snow to some parts of Atlantic Canada which could cause flight delays across Canada

Hopeful punters dreaming of a white Christmas

Area residents woke up to a white Christmas on Monday morning, with more than 4 inches of snow blanketing parts of the mid-Hudson Valley, according to meteorologist Christina Speciale of the National Weather Service in Albany.

Snow has begun to fall in Kitsap County, fulfilling the wish of those who want a white Christmas.

Days of cold are expected to follow Christmas, with temperatures expected to be in the 20s on Tuesday and Wednesday and the high teens on Thursday and Friday.

There is no white Christmas in the United Kingdom again this year as temperatures rose higher than Spain and Turkey.

"The air mass is borderline cold enough for snow", the Weather Service said in a statement. Expect areas of blowing and drifting snow, with wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour, reduced visibility and drifts, which will make travel hard at times.

Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. Snow will diminish late Christmas Day but remain showery into Tuesday morning.

Westchester, Dutchess and Orange counties, meanwhile, will likely see a dusting, while Sullivan County could get three to six inches of snow.
