Seth Meyers delivered a pitch flawless opening monologue at last night's Golden Globes, addressing sexual harassment, Donald Trump, and powerful men in Hollywood.

The Golden Globes are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

"Good evening ladies and remaining gentlemen", Meyers said as he started off the evening.

Overall, it was as successful an opening monologue as could be hoped for in an incredibly fraught broadcast; Meyers also became noticeably more comfortable alongside the audience.

He then quipped: 'Harvey Weinstein isn't here tonight because I've heard rumours he's insane and hard to work with, but don't worry, he will be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person booed during the In Memoriam'. It helped that numerous jokes involved adoring Oprah Winfrey, who was sitting in the front row with Stedman Graham, and Oprah makes everyone feel better. But if it's any consolation, I'm a man with absolutely no power in Hollywood.

Later, Meyers confronted "the elephant not in the room", aka accused sexual predator and former producer Harvey Weinstein.

Protesters plan rally against Trump before championship game
Trump says most of the benefits of the legislation are "going to working families, small businesses and family farmers". The NAACP said protesters should wave white towels to mock the title of "snowflake" often bestowed on Trump's critics.

As the gathered stars groaned, he added: 'It will sound like that'.

After Page Six exclusively reported that Hollywood was freaking out over alleged sightings of Harvey Weinstein in LA leading up to the Golden Globes - which his reps have denied - the rumors nevertheless persisted. For example, I was happy to hear they're going to do another season of "House of Cards".

"It's 2018 marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn't".

In one of his first bits, Meyers said for the actors nominated that night, the award announcements constituted "the first time in a three months it won't be terrifying to hear your name read out loud". Meyers and Amy Poehler then did a long riff where Poehler said she didn't need him to mansplain how to tell a joke and she just told the punchline: "Said the peach in Call Me By Your Name, 'this scene is the pits'".

"- said Kevin Spacey", Eichner interrupted, "'you lost me at 'of age'". But those numbers might be off since a white person did the math. "It's a gay coming-of-age film". "WHY?" and also, "I forgot to say "alleged". because i know better". But during the opening of Sunday's 75th Annual Golden Globes, host Seth Meyers nailed the ones he could.

But he even called himself out for hosting and put hosts of future shows like the Oscars on notice by comparing himself to the "first dog they shot into outer-space". Just an incredibly lovely film, but I have to admit, when I first heard about a film where a naïve young woman falls in love with a disgusting sea monster, I thought, 'Oh man, not another Woody Allen movie'.
