Suspect shoots 4 officers in S Carolina 1 critically hurt

Three law enforcement officers reportedly shot in York County, say media outlets

Four South Carolina officers - three York County Sheriff's deputies and a K-9 officer - were wounded and taken to a hospital; however, their conditions weren't immediately known.

A reverse 911 call was made to residents in the surrounding areas to inform them of the developing situation.

Deputies arrived and a K-9 team was called to track the suspect, according to WHNS. Multiple sheriff deputies, Emergency Medical Services and fire officials are on scene, reported WBTV.

At around 3:30 a.m., additional shots were fired striking three more officers. Those included two deputies and a York Police Department officer.

Like the officers, the suspect is also at the same hospital and undergoing surgery, Faris said. Two were taken to Carolinas Medical Center by aviation units and the third was transported by ground.

Three more officers were shot after they continued the search for McCall.

The condition of the officers were not clear early Tuesday.

The man suspected of firing the shots, Christian Thomas McCall, first struck one deputy near the home outside the city of York and then hit the others a couple hours later, York County Sheriff's Office spokesman Trent Faris said. Randy Clinton who was chasing him with a police dog.

McCall was also shot at that scene.

SLED is now still investigating the incident.

A neighbor of McCall's says he was stunned to find out who might have been involved. "This is what we hope never happens".

NBC Charlotte has learned McCall was arrested in Florence County, South Carolina in 1994 for assaulting a police officer and assault and battery.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents and Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., police participated in the search.
