The policemen were said to have been attached to the two foreign nationals to provide them protection.

Global Affairs Canada spokesman John Babcock said Canadian officials were aware that two citizens were reportedly abducted.

Aliyu reported earlier in the day that only two people were kidnapped, one American and one Canadian.

"Consular officials in Nigeria are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information", Babcock said.

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four foreign nationals on Kwoi-Jere road in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State in northern Nigeria.The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Mukhtar Aliyu, confirmed on Wednesday that the foreign nationals included two Canadians and two Americans.
