There were also representatives from Sheffield Wednesday, United's first opponents after the incident, and Bishop Auckland, who loaned players to the club in the aftermath.

"It's wonderful how Sir Matt Busby and Jimmy Murphy picked the club back up".

Club captain Michael Carrick laid a wreath, while rivals Liverpool and Manchester City were represented by Kenny Dalglish and Mike Summerbee respectively.
