Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon X24, World's First 2Gbps LTE Modem

Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE: World's first Cat 20 2Gbps modem set to debut at MWC

Can't wait for 5G? How your next phone goes supersonic in 4G

"However, while there are obvious benefits afforded to mobile operators implementing such technology, it will be challenging for smartphone OEMs to design handsets that can support so many bands and antennas". That will rely not only on licensed spectrum, but on carriers using Wi-Fi airwaves to transmit LTE data, which is called Licensed Assisted Access or LAA. It is built on the 7-nanometer process, which will bring even more impressive power efficiency and smaller footprint. Or really, anything close to it. Connection to the entire range of spectrum bands to carriers would improve overall performance. That means you can realistically expect "Stranger Things" Season 2 in HD to download in between 84 seconds (1.4 minutes) and 28 seconds in the adjusted, real-world range. Which, I think we can agree, are both desirable. The first commercial devices equipped with the Snapdragon X24 are expected by the end of the year.

Qualcomm is predicting that commercial devices featuring the X24 will be available this year, despite reports that its largest customer may abandon its modems altogether.

Well, apart from OnePlus, other OEMs like ASUS, HMD Global, HTC, LG, OPPO, Sony, Vivo and Xiaomi too have teamed up with Qualcomm for use of their Snapdragon X50 5G modem in their devices.

Qualcomm's X24 modem can reach speeds of 2 Gbps or about half the maximum speed of its current 5G modem.

This is all, of course, speculation.

Pentagon defends airstrike that reportedly killed 'dozens' of Russian mercenaries in Syria
Harrigian and other USA officials have declined to say which forces were responsible for last week's larger attack . One of the Russians killed was Kirill Ananyev, according to his friend Aleksandr Averin.

Sex abuse scandal in Haiti causes UK to review Oxfam ties

Austria's David Gleirscher wins shocking gold in men's singles luge
It's no surprise, Mazdzer's second run was the fastest in that heat demonstrating he was capable of medaling. Austria's David Gleirscher struggled to make the Olympic team, but is now the men's luge gold medalist.

Qualcomm also announced two new software offerings - an SDK for its IoT LTE modem (MDM9206) and a set of "wireless edge" services for enterprise and industrial use.

The Snapdragon X24 is the world's first Category 20 LTE modem, and supports download speeds of up to 2Gbps.

The X24 is Qualcomm's third-generation Gigabit LTE modem and will offer a 2x speed boost over its first-generation chip, the company says, enabling devices to better support intensive mobile functionality, including 360-degree video, "instant apps", and richer entertainment.

The X20 Gigabit LTE modem baked into Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 845 SoC is pretty fast, hitting download speeds as fast as 1.2 Gbps. It supports up to 7x carrier aggregation in the downlink as well as 4x4 MIMO on up to five aggregated LTE carriers for a theoretical total of up to 20 concurrent LTE streams. "This technology advancement will enable even higher network capacity, and hence faster mobile broadband speeds for even more people".

Additional system capacity improvements have also been made possible through the support of Full Dimension Multi-Input Multi-Output (FD-MIMO). In the uplink, the Snapdragon X24 LTE supports Category 20 upload speeds with 3×20 MHz CA and up to 256-QAM.
