Terror groups backed by Pak to continue attacks in India: US intel

Coats said, "There should be no doubt that Russia perceived its past efforts as successful and views the 2018 US midterm elections as a potential target for Russian midterm operations".

Beyond Russian election interference, the hearing detailed a series of serious threats to the United States, including North Korea's continued drive to develop a nuclear arsenal capable of annihilating the USA and the possibility that Pyongyang may conduct an atmospheric nuclear detonation over the Pacific after the Olympics, and the potential threat from Chinese technology embedded in US products.

He said Russia, China, Iran and North Korea "pose the greatest threats" to the electronic operations of US government and commerce.

"At a minimum, we expect Russian Federation to continue using propaganda, social media, false-flag personas, sympathetic spokespeople, and other means of influence to try to exacerbate social and political fissures in the United States", he said.

The intelligence community put out a dire warning in testimony before Congress Tuesday: Russia remains determined to undermine American democracy as we head into the 2018 midterm elections.

In testifying, Coats apparently had in mind the 2016 U.S. presidential election in which Russian Federation is alleged to have carried out large-scale interference including cyber attacks.

Among those who spoke at the hearing were Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, FBI Director Christopher Wray and National Security Agency Director Adm. Mike Rogers.

Israel goes mad after Syria shoots down its F-16
Shlomo Mishal, 55, from Beit Shean in northern Israel , said that he was woken by the sirens at around 4:30 a.m. Iran has denied this, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahran Qasemi calling the claim "ridiculous".

"Russian intelligence services will continue their efforts to disseminate false information via Russian state-controlled media and covert online personas about USA activities to encourage anti-US political views", the report said.

"Russian trolls and bots continue to push divisive content, both in the United States, and against all our allies in Europe - not only the UK, but, as we've talked before, France, Germany, Netherlands". Bot armies promoted partisan causes on social media, including the recent push to release a Republican congressional memo critical of law enforcement officials. The bots have also sought to portray the F.B.I. and Justice Department as infected by partisan bias, said Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the intelligence committee. He has repeatedly expressed doubts about the Russian attempt to influence the 2016 election, in opposition the uniform opinion of the intel community.

Pompeo added: "Sen. Reed, we have a significant effort". National Intelligence Director Dan Coats was even stronger.

Many experts, meanwhile, believe that Russian meddling in the presidential race was but a foretaste of what is to come - not just from the Kremlin, but also from other hostile states and private actors.

As for the Intelligence committee's own investigation into Russia's 2016 activities, committee chairman Richard Burr, R. -N.C. said he hopes to wrap up before the next round of elections begins.

"It is my personal view and shared by many people - that they are carrying out a well-orchestrated, well-executed, very patient long-term strategy to replace the United States as the most powerful and influential nation on Earth", Rubio said.

Pompeo had said earlier that he expected that Russian Federation would insert itself in the midterms in which Republicans and Democrats will vie for control of the House and Senate.
