Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, top Democrat on the Senate agriculture committee, said the food box idea "isn't a serious proposal and is clearly meant to be a distraction from this Administration's proposed budget that fails our families and farmers".
"How are those cities going to deliver food to rural America?"
The US government under the leadership of President Donald Trump is actually considering to replace some portions of the food stamp program by the federal government with boxes of actual food which will be delivered to recipients on their front doors. "These budget proposals for SNAP are the wrong way to go to provide healthy, safe, affordable food for all".
Before making any changes, the administration needs to get approval from Congress.
The new plan will apply to families that receive more than $90 per month in aid, which includes 80 percent of all SNAP beneficiaries. It would not contain fresh fruit or vegetables. The remainder of their benefits would be given to them on electronic benefit cards, as before.
States will be given substantial flexibility to distribute these food benefits to participants.
As of today, those Americans who are under the SNAP program have the right to make a decision on what to spend the cash on whenever they are doing some shopping in a verified retail store.
The budget also includes cutting funding for the program by roughly $213 billion, or 30 percent, over the next 10 years. It would also shift part of the cost of the program onto states.

The proposal appeared to have limited support from north country lawmakers.
Douglas Greenaway, president of the National WIC Association, echoed that sentiment. "Most people on (SNAP) don't want to be on it". He says "the budget seems to assume that participating in SNAP is a character flaw". If the cuts are approved, they would receive their food in "USDA Food Packages". "Among the problems, it's going to be costly and take money out of the [SNAP] program from the administrative side".
If you receive money from food stamps, a proposal from the government would switch part of that benefit from dollars to non-perishable food. Mulvaney said that the program will be the most dominant idea in the proposed budget by the White House.
However, he disagreed with media coverage that claimed the SNAP program is being abused by users, which he described as "people from all walks of life".

In between was mostly a decent day with Woods converting seven putts inside 10 feet, a mixture of pars and birdies, in a 72. Watson hasn't cracked the top 20 this year in three tournaments, but with long odds I think Watson has some value.
