UFC President Dana White will strip Conor McGregor of his UFC Lightweight title, meaning the upcoming fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson at UFC 223 in April will be for the title McGregor now holds.

That has prompted speculation, including from UFC president Dana White, that the 29-year-old may have faced his last bout in mixed martial arts.

Earlier on Thursday, McGregor said in a social media post that he offered to fight Edgar at the March 3rd event, after Max Holloway withdrew due to injury.

But McGregor has repeatedly said that his career isn't over, and that he plans on fighting again. "Period. I am the best at this", he wrote.

I am fighting again. On top of the fighting. Because I am here.

A ton of heat has recently surfaced about McGregor possibly returning to face Floyd Mayweather, whom he lost a tenth-round TKO in their hyped boxing match last August, in the Octagon. Yours sincerely, The Champ Champ™.

Having made UFC history, then taking on Floyd Mayweather in what was billed as the "fight of the century", not to mention learning to be a dad, the Irishman took a well earned break.

"He's full a s-".

Edgar's manager told ESPN that McGregor was a "liar" when asked if McGregor offered to fight Edgar at UFC 222. However, McGregor hasn't been that fighter for years.

Although McGregor now reigns as the 155-pound champion of the world, a fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is scheduled to go down this April to crown a new champion. "I say it all the time, with that kind of money, Conor might never come back". McGregor captured the UFC featherweight title at UFC 194 in December 2015, knocking out Brazilian legend Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds.

Plus, White and the UFC are going to want to handle McGregor's return carefully.
