Report: Chiefs to trade star corner Marcus Peters to Los Angeles Rams

Kansas City is set to deal top cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams when the new league year starts March 14.

Peters, 25, registered 46 tackles, five interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in the 2017 season. In Kansas City, Peters has become a 1x First-Team All-Pro, 1x 2nd-Team All-Pro, 2x Pro Bowler, and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (2015). Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the 49ers and Cleveland Browns were also interested in trading for Peters.

First, the team traded away veteran quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins to pave the way for future (and, hopefully franchise) quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Over the last three seasons, he has accounted for 24 turnovers, including 19 interceptions.

Terms of the deal have yet to be reported.

OAR open investigation into Alexander Krushelnitsky drug test
NBC says that second doping test used the same sample as the first to make sure the original result wasn't a false positive . Earlier the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) confirmed the positive result and expressed "deep regret" over the incident.

This offseason, the Chiefs had to decide if the team wanted to pick up the fifth-year option of Peters.

The Chiefs in the end chose to get what they could for Peters now, when he has up to two seasons remaining on his contract and their asking price would be higher than if they waited until next year. In turn, that would push the Rams to a long-term deal for wide receiver Sammy Watkins or see him hit free agency.

Peters eventually will line up opposite Rams cornerback Kayvon Webster, who is recovering from surgery to fix a torn Achilles tendon and whose readiness for the start of training camp remains in question.

Peters' relatively low cost should help the Rams with other pending free agents. He had five interceptions past year, but he was suspended for December's game against the Raiders because of his actions the previous week against the Jets.
