K.C. declined and Ogletree ended up getting shipped to the New York Giants for two draft picks. He led their defense in tackles during four of his five seasons, only failing to do so in 2015 when he played in just four games due to a broken leg.

The Giants haven't exactly looked at linebackers in the first round of NFL Drafts.

Ogletree, 26, had 95 tackles, 2.0 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble last season in 15 games, all as a starter.

The Rams made the playoffs previous year for the first time since 2004, finishing the regular season at 11-5.

Ogletree, 26, entering his sixth National Football League season out of Georgia, improves a thin Giants linebacking corps that needs to add speed, athleticism and versatility in Bettcher's new 3-4, blitz-heavy scheme. Team captain Jonathan Casillas was a starting linebacker who was injured during the latter half of last season and entering free agency. That room is likely to be used in part to sign AP Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald to a lucrative long-term extension.

The deal, which opens approximately $5.2 million in cap space for the Rams, can not become official until the league year begins on March 14.

The Giants have traded for Alec Ogletree of the Los Angeles Rams.
