Syracuse University's Theta Tau fraternity suspended over 'extremely racist' and 'homophobic' video

According to the university paper, Yankowy was listed as a member of the frat on Syracuse's fraternity website before the directory was temporarily taken down. The video, about six minutes long, also shows members of the fraternity laughing while pretending to masturbate each other and perform oral sex.

The newspaper said the recording was of a video made in the fraternity house and posted to a private Facebook group called "Tau of Theta Tau". Asked how administrators had become aware of it, a spokeswoman for Syracuse said it had been "sent to university officials".

The university's chancellor, Kent Syverud, confirmed in an all-campus email that the frat was suspended Wednesday, according to campus paper The Daily Orange.

A professional engineering fraternity, Theta Tau, national organization said it was investigating what occurred in the video, but said the behavior exhibited did not represent the "very diverse organization", CBS News reports.

According to the statement, Syracuse's Department of Public Safety are now investigating the footage to identify members involved and are planning to seek additional legal and disciplinary actions against them. Three student leaders listed on a cached version of the website did not respond to emails seeking comment. "Now", as well as "Hey hey, ho ho, Theta Tau has got to go".
