Khomenei: US provoking Gulf nations to confront Iran

UPDATE 2-Iran leader: US pushes Riyadh to confront Tehran, stirs crisis

Iran's top leader accuses US of provoking regional conflicts

Iranian officials have not directly responded to the attack, but the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, indirectly addressed the strikes on Iranians as well as the U.S. role in the region.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei closed the door to any worldwide attempts to negotiate Tehran's regional role and ballistic missile program, accusing the US administration of waging an economic war against his country run by the US Treasury Department.

Two conservative media outlets, Fars News Agency and the Tasnim News Agency, both believed to be linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that an "informed source" rebutted the stories that ran in the Western media that Iranian military advisers were killed in the attack. "You are the foreigners and are after destruction and sedition".

"I think they would all agree that it's in everyone's best interests that the Gulf States all figure out how to be together", Pompeo told reporters after he left Saudi Arabia.

"The United States, not Iran, should withdraw from West Asia", he stressed.

The Leader then decried the United States policy of countering the Islamic Republic by fomenting regional feud, adding, "The Americans are trying to pit the Saudis and some (other) regional countries against the Islamic Republic, while if they (Saudis) have any wisdom, they should not be deceived by the USA".

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that the US Department of Treasury has turned into "a war room" against Iran.

"The Americans are trying to provoke Saudi Arabia and some regional states to confront the Islamic republic", Khamenei said, adding that those countries should not be deceived by the United States.

The Leader has on various occasion called for the purchase of Iranian goods and plans to curb contraband.

In Riyadh, Pompeo reassured Saudi Arabia that the United States would exit Iran's 2015 multinational nuclear deal, unless European signatories of the accord "fix" it.
