The Android phones relay the location of the nearby cell towers to Google, without the necessary consent given by the user, the allegation states. Now, Oracle has come out in the open by repeating the same allegations to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in a presentation.
One example of this, the letter notes, is Google's ability to share blog posts about "holiday shopping habits" through the data it collects from users' Location History.
Google is under investigation in Australia following claims that it collects data from millions of Android smartphone users, who unwittingly pay their telecom service providers for gigabytes consumed by the activity, regulators said on Tuesday. The Daily Telegraph reports that the ACCC brought in experts from Oracle for information on an inquiry into "digital platforms including Google and Facebook", particularly in regards to consumer knowledge of location data usage. Oracle has been involved in a long-running dispute with Google over claims that the internet giant contravened Oracle's Java intellectual property rights. Moreover, the phone doesn't need to have any apps installed, or even a SIM card inserted.
"The result is that Google, the unit of Alphabet behind Android, has access to data about individuals' locations and their movements that go far beyond a reasonable consumer expectation of privacy", the Quartz report says.

Meanwhile, ACCC chairman Rod Sims said, "The ACCC met with Oracle and is considering information it has provided about Google services".
However, beaming that much data back to Google costs gigabytes of mobile data that customers have unknowingly have been unknowingly paying for thinking that it reflects their data usage.
Earlier this year, social media giant Facebook apologized after Web marketing firm Cambridge Analytica was accused of obtaining users' data without permission for the 2016 election campaign of US President Donald Trump.
In Australia, 10 million people use an Android phone, which is almost half of the population.
U.S. software company Oracle has always been involved in a dispute with Google over the infringed use of Oracle's Java intellectual property.
