Gun rights, reform groups to meet Texas governor after school shooting

I have the deepest sympathy for the teachers and students who died or were wounded in any and all of this countries school shootings.

The meetings were prompted by the slaying of 10 people last week at Santa Fe High School.

That's in sharp contrast to the response to the February 14 shooting rampage at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead. Instead, teachers will be working at Santa Fe ISD headquarters.

Wall said that the district will later provide additional information to students on academics, campus activities and end of the year procedures. They'll have access to "counseling assistance from many state and local agencies" and will see additional law enforcement officers on campus, the superintendent said.

The team wore "We Play for Santa Fe" T-shirts in Santa Fe High School's colors.

On Wednesday, a lobbyist from the Texas State Rifle Association, affiliated with the National Rifle Association, will be participating with state lawmakers and education and law enforcement officials.

The roundtable was closed to the media.

"We have like one counselor to every 600 students, and there's no way for a counselor to identify warning signs about some students, the potential ones, who are going to cause these (violent) actions". Texas also allows rifles to be openly carried in public. The school district issued a statement saying it investigated the accusations and "confirmed that these reports were untrue".
