GETTY Man Utd have triggered the release clause of Porto right-back Diogo Dalot

He has enjoyed a fine season yet again this term and Sport are reporting that Premier League giants United and Chelsea are keen.

Manchester United may be closing in on their first signing of the 2018 summer transfer window and it's a relatively obscure name- Porto full back Diogo Dalot.

The 19-year-old defender made his debut for the Portuguese club last season and immediately impressed during his seven first-team appearances in all competitions. Deployed in an unfamiliar role as the left-back - the player is a natural at right-back - Dalot seemed unfazed by the step up and put in credible shifts.

The 19-year-old, who is a natural right-back but can also play on the left, has been followed extensively by United in recent months as they look for a long-term solution in their defensive ranks. Interest in Diogo Dalot has been present for a while now, with FC Porto rejecting multiple bids below the player's €20 million release clause.

Dalot would be Antonio Valencia's replacement, with Mourinho aware that the right-back is coming towards the end of his career.

Dalot has already agreed personal terms with United with the highly-rated Portugal Under-21 global expected to push captain Antonio Valencia hard for a place in the first-team.

Dalot is expected to be given first-team opportunities, with Mourinho clearing out players such as Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind to make way for further recruits.
