A report by Bloomberg suggests that apart from the addition of features to the AirPods, Apple will also be launching studio-quality over-ear headphones, as well as an update to it's relatively unsuccessful Google Home and Amazon Echo competitor, the HomePod.
Those same sources added that Apple is putting together AirPods with water resistance (mainly against rain or sweat, not for swimming or anything like that) and noise-cancellation.
Further down the line, various biometric sensors could also greatly enhance the capabilities of the AirPods family, monitoring your heart rate, for instance, without the need for a phone or watch nearby.

A wireless charging case for Apple's in-ear audio solution is also in the pipeline and will be compatible with the upcoming AirPower wireless charging mat. They'll utilize Apple branding and be positioned as a higher-end alternative to the company's Beats line.
