Kerber through to Wimbledon final after easy win over Ostapenko

Serena Williams celebrates after winning against Italy's Camila Giorgi during their women's singles quarter-final match on the eighth day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, London, July 10, 2018. Williams won that for a second consecutive Wimbledon title, then sat out the grass-court tournament past year while pregnant, part of a 16-month gap between majors.

For the second time in three years, Williams will face Angelique Kerber for the title.

That title pushed her past Steffi Graf's record of 22 majors in the half-century professional era; Court won some of her Slams during the amateur era.

"This was not inevitable for me", Williams said after the match, which took 70 minutes to complete.

Williams, who is in a major final just 13 matches into a stirring comeback, said, "This is insane, I don't know how to feel".

France midfielder Paul Pogba ready to make sacrifices for the team's cause
Croatia players celebrate next to an AFP photographer Yuri Cortez after Mario Mandzukic scores their second goal . They are solid. "I don't think that tiredness will play a part as you overcome it when you play in a final".

Williams was ranked 25th in this year's tournament after giving birth to a baby daughter in September. When Serena went serving for the match, things looked done and dusted. "I love watching her play", she said of the tenacious world No.10, adding, "she was going through the draw very well". Williams, who over the years has introduced variety into her play, threw up a lob to set-up breakpoint, which she duly converted to take a 4-2 lead.

In the final, Williams will play Angelique Kerber after the German's 6-3, 6-3 win over Jelena Ostapenko. I know that sounds weird, but I don't. In the week leading up to her first-round match against Viktoriya Tomova, Williams posted a daily countdown on Instagram that included flashback Wimbledon photos and uplifting sentiments.

By the end, Ostapenko had far more winners, 30-10, but also far more unforced errors, 36-7. Suddenly, Williams' place in another All England Club final began to seem all but assured - while also feeling like entirely too much to expect so soon. "I think that she steps up her game [against me]", Goerges said.

Williams is playing her fourth tournament since becoming a mother and is now the favourite to win the title. After a double-fault helped hand Williams a break point, Gorges failed to clear the net with a drop shot. "For me, I only see joy out of it", Williams said with a smile.
