The Texas Rangers are reportedly trading starting pitcher Cole Hamels to the Chicago Cubs, according to multiple sources Thursday night.

As part of the deal, Texas will send Chicago $2,862,903 (all dollars U.S.) to cover a portion of the $7,862,903 remaining in Hamels' $22.5-million salary this year.

Hamels, 34, has a 5-9 record and a 4.72 ERA this season but has been much better on the road - away from hitter-friendly Texas - where he has a 2.93 ERA.

Hamels is 152-111 in his career with a 3.43 ERA in 383 games with the Rangers and Phillies, and he's 7-6 with a 3.48 postseason ERA.

It appears the Cubs will once again look to the Rangers for pitching help.

The Cubs are 60-42 this season, sitting in first place of the NL Central. On July 25, 2015, in his last start for Philadelphia before being traded to the Texas Rangers, Hamels no-hit the Cubs at Wrigley Field. By the end of the day, they had completed the deal for Hamels.
