Indonesian officials said the death toll is expected to rise as they receive more information about collapsed and badly damaged buildings, especially near the earthquake's epicentre in the northern part of the island. A magnitude-7.0 quake struck right along the coast of the Indonesian island of Lombok, near Loloan village Sunday night local time (Aug. 5), according to Indonesian authorities.

"They do not have a water supply and not enough food", Tasman told AFP, after visiting Karang Bajo village in the island's north. "Children are the most vulnerable".

He said the joint team, made up of rescue workers and military personnel, combed through collapsed buildings to look for victims still trapped in the rubble in the most affected areas in North Lombok Regency and West Lombok Regency.

Twenty-three-year old local man Ghozali who lives in northern Lombok and works on the tourist island of Gili T, slept outside with his extended family on Monday night because of serious structural damage to his home.

On July 29th there was a 6-point-4 magnitude quake that left at least 17 people dead.

On Gili Trawangan, one of three popular vacation islands near Lombok, thousands of tourists and local residents spent the night on a hill fearing a tsunami.

Lombok International Airport reopened Monday, but national airline Garuda International announced some flights to the island could be delayed. Indonesia's location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin, makes it prone to earthquakes.

In December 2004, a massive magnitude 9.1 quake off Sumatra island triggered a tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen countries.
