Production of the EQC will start in 2019 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, Germany.
"With the EQC - the first fully electric SUV from Mercedes-Benz - we are flipping the switch". In terms of competition, the Mercedes-Benz EQC rivals the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace which is already listed on Jaguar's India website, Tesla Model X and the soon to be unveiled Audi e-tron.
What's possibly a little surprising is that the EQC is styled much more conventionally than the Tesla Model X, and it also looks more like a regular SUV than the Jaguar does too. A lot of them start at roughly $70,000.
It's the most hotly anticipated Mercedes-Benz model this year, especially for the budding new age of consumers who are more concerned about saving the planet than outright speed or shows of luxury. The company never hid the fact that concept was meant to preview the real deal, and indeed, it did just that. The EQC will be will be similar in size to the company's GLC crossover. Even Bentley has plans for an all-electric ultraluxury sedan by 2020. The louvered trim in the upper dashboard and door panels, for instance, resembles the cooling fins of a hi-fi amplifier. Leather seats and carbon-fiber trims are available as an option. It'll also have EQ-specific rose gold accents throughout the cabin, including on the air vents.

The SUV features electric drivetrains on the front and rear axles for all-wheel-drive capability, and performance is in the upper league with claimed system outputs of 300kW and 765Nm, and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.1 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz says the EQC will have "up to 200 miles" of range. Both of those times are slightly slower than the I-Pace, though at 187.4 inches long, the EQC 400 is the longer of the two and likely the heavier.
Mercedes promised an official USA range a little later, closer to the market debut of the EQC 400, which is not unusual given the market-specific certification, but it will likely be a bit south of the 279-mile NEDC figure.
Tesla has had virtually no competition up to now, which has allowed it to easily become the frontrunner and persuade early adopters to pay a premium for an all-electric auto from a relative unknown, with no quality track-record or physical dealerships for servicing and support.
