A 24-year-old man has been charged with five counts of murder after two-year-old twin girls, their three-year-old sister, mother and grandmother were found dead in a Perth home.
Officers discovered the bodies of two women and three young children in a house in Bedford on Sunday afternoon at 12pm local time.
Western Australia Police Force said they had taken a man in his 20s into custody, adding there is no danger to the wider public as a result of the incident.
At the time of the statement, the Homicide Squad and teams of detectives were on ground, accompanied by specialist forensic police.
Police said it remained unclear how long the bodies of the five had remained in the house before discovery, but have since confirmed first responders would have access to a WA Police chaplain in order to deal with what they found.
The bodies were found at an address on Coode Street, Bedford after a man attended a regional Western Australian Police station on Sunday morning.
While violent crime with multiple victims is rare in the country, this was the second major incident in Western Australia this year. Police refused to say what the man told them - or how he was known to the victims.
Neighbors said a young family lived in the home and an older woman had frequently visited.
